On October 23, 2010, I walked into a room I had visited more than once before and I picked up a desire chip – to show that I had a desire not to drink for the next 24 hours. It was not the first room like that that I had visited and it was not the first desire chip I had ever picked up, but nine years later, I remain grateful for that chip and hopeful that it’s the last desire chip I pick up. I still have that chip and consider it to be as important as any of the ones that celebrate the milestones in my sobriety. There’s a whole lot more to that story and I’ll share more and more as this blog grows. For now, you can listen to me share my story on the SHAIR podcast and on the Podcast Recovery podcast.
AA is how I got sober and it remains a part of my recovery, but today my recovery is more of a patchwork quilt that incorporates different programs of recovery and pieces that wouldn’t traditionally be considered recovery tools. My goals is to remain open to the opportunities provided to me by my Higher Power and to keep exploring. You can find links to some of my favorite podcasts, books and such here.
